Sonia Machado-Hines:
Filmmaking gives me the opportunity to tell stories that I want to tell and gives me the confidence to tell them without permission.

Film is important to me as an art form because it can communicate to anyone depending on how it’s done, it can have a positive influence and impact. It’s made me see other points of view and dream of a better way to live and to see myself in other people in ways that I had never seen before
Sonia Machado-Hines
I have been faced with the lack of understanding of some of the mechanics to creating my vision on screen. And I found that surrounding myself with like minded people that support my vision and have the ability to help me to manage the task to get my vision on screen.
Terence Bernie Hines
Fully getting on screen what was in my mind and how to make it happen for others to see while keeping with my integrity on the final product.
Sonia Machado-Hines
My film, Hatshepsut, is the story of a female Pharaoh who ruled as a man and loved and lived as a woman. It is a story of love, passion and power and the adversity that a woman in a position of power can encounter and how staying true to her passion has persisted over time. I was motivated by the story and the writers of the feature length script (Quendrith Johnson, Hessam Nowzari and the late Gore Vidal). Their work and inspiration of the Egyption time period piece was unparalleled.

My wife, Sonia Machado-Hines, came across this incredible script and was so excited about what it could be and its story of female empowerment and this resonated with stories of women today and what they have gone through has been happening for years.

Our cast was sought through utilization of Backstage West, casting sessions through Film Independent and some relationships that I’d met over the years as well as some very good advice from Yvonne Armstrong from Armstrong Casting. The crew was sought through some good word-of-mouth and follow through as well as Craiglist was immensely helpful. We were fortunate to have the mentorship of a key Executive at a major studio but also forged future relationships that will last the test of time.
Terence Bernie Hines
A lot of it was held in casting sessions through Film Independent and the crew was acquired through word-of-mouth and believe it or not Craigslist and the kind mentorships of a key Executive at a major studio.
Sonia Machado-Hines
Increase the mentorship possibilities as the potential is endless.

I would have more incubation of directors, producers with writers and pair them to create new ideas and on a more grass root level

In my opinion, it’s gotta grab YOU, excite YOU and make you want to move mountains to get it made. And keep you at that level of interest to the end result where you audience feels it.
Terence Bernie Hines
Have a great story, the obsessive belief in making that story come to fruition and then hiring others that can see and follow your vision.
